Why We Recommend Genuine DPF Pressure Sensors Over Cheap Aftermarket Alternatives

At Advanced Remaps & DPF Cleaning, we see it all the time – vehicles that have had parts replaced, yet the original fault is still there.


One of the most common examples is the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Differential Pressure Sensor.

In the photo below, you can see two sensors side by side. The sensor at the top is an aftermarket replacement, while the one below is the genuine Denso/Toyota unit.


Although the aftermarket sensor was brand new, it was producing incorrect pressure readings. Because the ECU relies on this sensor to calculate the amount of soot in the DPF and determine when a regeneration is needed, inaccurate readings can cause a range of problems.


What Can Happen with a Faulty DPF Pressure Sensor?

A faulty or poor-quality pressure sensor can lead to:

  • Incorrect DPF soot calculations.

  • Failed or cancelled DPF regenerations.

  • DPF warning lights.

  • Limp mode.

  • Reduced fuel economy.

  • Premature DPF blockage.

  • Unnecessary replacement of expensive components.

Many owners assume a blocked DPF is the problem, when in reality the ECU is simply receiving inaccurate information from the pressure sensor.


Genuine vs Aftermarket

Not all aftermarket parts are poor quality, but we’ve found that some cheaper pattern DPF pressure sensors simply don’t provide the same accuracy as genuine components.


In this case, the vehicle continued to display incorrect pressure values even after the aftermarket sensor had been fitted. As soon as the genuine Denso sensor was installed, the pressure readings immediately returned to normal, allowing the ECU to correctly monitor the DPF system again.


This is why we always recommend diagnosing the fault properly before replacing parts.
